Santa Ysabel East Mother's Day Wildflower Hike, Sunday, May 14th, 2017, 9am-12:30pm

Sunday, May 14th at 9:00 am join Ranger Bobbi for a Free Mother's Day wildflower hike through the Santa Ysabel Preserve-East. The moderate 7-mile hike will take you along Santa Ysabel Creek and up and around the Kanaka Loop Trail and return to the trailhead around 12:30pm. Along the way, Ranger Bobbi will talk about the many different flowers and birds that call this preserve home.
 

Volcan Summit Wildflower Hike, Sunday, April 30th, 2017, 9am-1pm

Sunday, April 30th at 9:00 am join Ranger Bobbi in search of spring blooms on Volcan Mountain.  You'll hike to the summit by way of the Five Oaks Trail, and come back down the original Volcan Trail. This is a strenuous 5.5 mile hike, with a 1,000' elevation gain, returning to the trailhead around 1pm. Along the way, Ranger Bobbi will talk about the many different flowers and birds that call this preserve home, and there are stunning views from 'sea to sea'--the Salton Sea and the Pacific Ocean--when you get to the summit.
 

Santa Ysabel East Earth Day Back Trails Hike, Saturday, April 22nd, 2017

Saturday, April 22nd at 9:00 am join San Diego County Parks Attendant, Bill Augustus on a hike through some of the back trails of the Santa Ysabel East Preserve.  Enjoy discussions about the history, plants and wildlife of the Preserve, while seeing places in the Preserve you don’t normally get to see.  Dogs are welcome but they need to be on a leash.  The hike will last 3 or 4 hours. 
 

Santa Ysabel No Moon Family Hike and Star Party

Saturday, January 21st from 4:30pm to 9:30pm Join San Diego County Parks Ranger Bill, Curiosity Peak Observatory and Julian Dark Sky Network for a no moon family hike followed by a star party at Santa Ysabel Preserve West. Meet at the Santa Ysabel Preserve West staging area at Hwy. 79 at 4:30.  Ranger Bill will lead an easy 2 mile family evening hike through trails of the Santa Ysabel West Preserve.

Back Country Autumn Hike

Sunday, December 11th at 9:00 am join San Diego County Parks for an autumn hike at the Santa Ysabel Preserve East. This ranger-led hike will take you around the unique and beautiful Kanaka Loop Trail. Dogs are welcome but they need to be on a leash. The hike will last 3 or 4 hours.

Canyoneers Hike

Sunday, November 6th at 9am please join the Canyoneers for a hike on the Santa Ysabel Preserve East to Kanaka loop. Canyoneers are citizen scientists and volunteers who have had comprehensive training by museum scientists and local experts on the natural history of the region. They offer hikes throughout the region from September 2016 through June 2017. One of the few trail-guide groups nationwide affiliated with a natural history museum rather than a park or reserve, Canyoneers have provided free guided tours in San Diego County since 1973.

Family Nature Touch Table at Santa Ysabel Preserve East, Sunday, November 6th, 8:30-11:30am

Sunday, November 6th (from 8:30-11:30am) visit County Parks Santa Ysabel Preserve-East for a hike with the kids, and stop by the amphitheater before you hit the trails to see skins, skulls and bones! Learn about the wildlife that lives in the preserve, and ask questions! Park staff will be on site to share information.

Learning About Mountain Lions-County Parks Presentation & Hike, Sunday, October 16, 2016

Sunday, October 16th (from 4-6:30pm) visit County Parks Santa Ysabel Preserve-East to learn more about mountain lions in the backcountry from local Mountain Lion Foundation (MLF) representative, Jane Santorumn. She'll talk about MLF's Julian Mountain Lion Program on co-existing in the backcountry with mountain lions--what it means for both the community and the lions that live there.
