Morning Bird Walk & Talk at Santa Ysabel Preserve East, Sunday, October 30, 2016

Sunday, October 30th (from 8-11am) join, Audubon Society docent, Peter Thomas on a hike to the second creek crossing of County Parks' Santa Ysabel Preserve-East and a search for local and migrating birds. All level of birders are welcome on this level to gently rolling 3 mile round trip hike. Bring binoculars, cameras and your enthusiasm!

Santa Ysabel East Back Country Autumn Hike, Sunday, October 2nd, 2016 at 9am

Sunday, October 2nd at 9:00 am hike 'over the river and through the woods' of the Santa Ysabel Preserve East in search of fall colors, while enjoying Julian's brisk mountain air! This ranger-led hike will take you around the unique and beautiful Kanaka Loop Trail. Dogs are welcome but they need to be on a leash.  The hike will last 3 or 4 hours. 

Volcan Mountain New Moon Hike & Star Party at the Summit, Saturday, October 1st at 5pm

Saturday, October 1st experience the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve (VMWP) on an evening hike up to the VMWP summit guided by San Diego County Parks. Take in panoramic views while hiking the VMWP’s Five Oaks trail, and enjoy a bird’s eye view of Julian, where on a clear day you can see the buildings in downtown San Diego and Islands off the coast of Mexico and Southern California.

Back Trails Hike in Santa Ysabel Preserve East, Saturday September 24th, 2016

Saturday, September 24th at 9:00 am join San Diego County Parks Attendant, Bill Augustus on a hike through some of the back trails of the Santa Ysabel East Preserve.  Enjoy discussions about the history, plants and wildlife of the Preserve, while seeing places in the Preserve you don’t normally get to see.  Dogs are welcome but they need to be on a leash.  The hike will last 3 or 4 hours. 

Santa Ysabel East Preserve-Highway 79 Back Trails Hike, Saturday, October 15th at 9am

Saturday, October 15th at 9:00 am join San Diego County Park Attendant Bill Augustus on a hike through some of the back trails of the Santa Ysabel East Preserve-Highway 79.  Enjoy discussions about the history, plants and wildlife of the Preserve, while seeing places in the Preserve you don’t normally get to see. (This is the new back trails hike that we canceled last spring due to rain.)  

Fall 2016 Trails & Ales-Volcan Mountain & Julian Hard Cider, Saturday, October 1st

Saturday, October 1st come up to Julian to join the Volcan Mountain Foundation and Julian Hard Cider for the second offering of San Diego's new Trails & Ales series. It's all about discovering new trails, friends and great local craft brew--and cider--all to support nature!

The inaugural Spring series sold out in two days, and with each hike limited to 25 participants, the Fall series is expected to fill up quickly as well.

View Fireworks & Sunset from the Volcan Summit on a Rare Evening Hike! Monday, July 4th; Leaving the Trailhead at 6pm

Monday, July 4th at 6pm, watch the sun set into the Pacific and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the many fireworks displays around San Diego County from the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve. San Diego County Park staff  will also discuss the history and geography of the area.
