Volcan Mountain Summit Hike for San Diego River Days, Saturday, May 21st 9am-Noon

Saturday, May 21st, hike to the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve for San Diego River Days hosted by the Volcan Mountain Foundation. The preserve offers great hiking through 2,900 acres of beautiful mixed conifer forest, offering breathtaking views across the San Diego River watershed to the coast and to the Salton Sea in the Anza-Borrego Desert in the east.

Valentine's Weekend Hike on Volcan and Wine Tasting/Picnic, Saturday, February 13th, 2016 8:30am-2pm

Saturday, February 13th grab your loved ones and join the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy and the Volcan Mountain Foundation for a moderate/strenuous 8-mile round-trip Volcan Mountain Valentine's Weekend Hike from 8:30am to 2pm. 

Take in scenic views of the Anza Borrego Desert to the East, downtown San Diego to the south and the San Dieguito River Park to the west from the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve.

Exec Trek to Kanaka Flats, Saturday, October 24th, 8:30 am- Noon

Saturday October 24th, 8:30-noon, please join Trish Boaz, Executive Director of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy for an Exec Trek at Volcan Mountain in Julian, the headwaters of the San Dieguito River, and the crest of the Coast to Crest Trail. The group will hike around the Kanaka Loop trail through the grassy meadows and oak groves of the Santa Ysabel Preserve-East. Learn about the history, plants and wildlife of the area, and enjoy a view of the coast from atop Kanaka Flats.

Saturday, October 10th, Santa Ysabel Preserve East

Join Park Attendant Bill Augustus on a hike through some of the back trails of the Santa Ysabel East Preserve.  Enjoy discussions about the history, plants and wildlife of the Preserve, while seeing places in the Preserve you don’t normally get to see. This hike will include an elevation gain and loss of approximately 500 feet in 1/2 mile.  The total hike distance will be approximately 5 miles.  Please dress in layers as the temperature will vary throughout the hike. Wear sturdy hiking shoes; bring plenty of water and a snack for the trail.   Inclement weather will cancel event.

Saturday July 25, 8:30-noon, please join Trish Boaz and Colleen Bradley, Executive Directors of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy and the Volcan Mountain Foundation for an Exec Trek at Volcan Mountain in Julian, the headwaters of the San Dieguito River, and the crest of the Coast to Crest Trail.

The hike — roughly 5 miles, rated “strenuous” — is free. Reservations appreciated.
