Wild Blackberry Picking Hike-Saturday, August 12th at 8am--Santa Ysabel East

Saturday, August 12th at 8am join San Diego County Park rangers for a hike into a “closed to the public” area and to the rare White Alder Forest. Along the way, we will pick Blackberries. This will be an easy hike with a gentle downhill, following the creek for three miles and then back again for a total of six miles. It will be hot, but this is one of the shadiest hikes in the park.

Kanaka Flats Sunset & Full Moon Hike--Santa Ysabel Preserve East on Saturday, August 5th at 6:15pm-9:00pm

Saturday, August 5th from 6:15 pm to 9:00 pm Join Ranger Bill Augustus on a sunset hike in the Santa Ysabel East Preserve.  We will be hiking a section of the Coast to Crest Trail that leads up to Kanaka flats.  Enjoy discussions about the history, plants and wildlife of the area and experience the Preserve after dark.

Off the Beaten Path-Fairy Forest Hike with Ranger Doug, Saturday, July 8th, 2017

Saturday, July 8th join Ranger Doug as he leads you to Volcan's Fairy Forest and the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve where you can see amazing views of San Diego County and beyond! Doug will take you into areas that are normally off-limits to the public so you can see more of this incredible natural habitat and perhaps get a glimpse of some of its inhabitants. Come prepared for hot weather and bring plenty of water.

Hidden Trails of the West Preserve, Saturday, June 10th, 8am-10:30am

Saturday, June 10th from 8am-10:30am head off the beaten track. Join Ranger Doug on some of the back trails of this gorgeous preserve, where you can literally "go over the river and through the woods!" You'll get to enjoy one of the largest stands of Engelmann oaks in the state and see great views of the Santa Ysabel valley from the north end of the trail.

Volcan Summit Wildflower Hike, Sunday, May 28th, 2017, 9am-1pm

Sunday, May 28th at 9:00 am join Ranger Bobbi in search of spring blooms on Volcan Mountain.  You'll hike to the summit by way of the Five Oaks Trail, and come back down the original Volcan Trail. This is a strenuous 5.5 mile hike, with a 1,000' elevation gain, returning to the trailhead around 1pm. Along the way, Ranger Bobbi will talk about the many different flowers and birds that call this preserve home, and there are stunning views from 'sea to sea'--the Salton Sea and the Pacific Ocean--when you get to the summit.
 

Volcan Mountain Summit Hike for San Diego River Days, Saturday, May 20th, 2017, 9am-Noon

Saturday, May 20th, hike to the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve as part of San Diego River Days hosted by the Volcan Mountain Foundation. The preserve offers great hiking through 2,900 acres of beautiful mixed conifer forest, offering breathtaking views across the San Diego River watershed to the coast and to the Salton Sea in the Anza-Borrego Desert in the east.

Santa Ysabel East Back Trails Hike, Saturday, May 13th, 2017, 9am-1pm

Saturday, May 13th at 9:00 am join San Diego County Parks Attendant, Bill Augustus on a hike through some of the back trails of the Santa Ysabel East Preserve. Hike among the old-growth oaks and sycamores in a normally closed section of this beautiful preserve that you don't usually get to see. Spring flowers will line the trail along Santa Ysabel Creek on this moderate 7-mile hike. Dogs are welcome but they need to be on a leash.  The hike will last 3 or 4 hours.
