Summer is a grand time to discover, adventure in, and explore nature at the headwaters of Santa Ysabel Creek shaded by abundant cedars, pines, and oaks.  Enjoy three afternoons of free, family-friendly nature programs of short hikes, nature crafts and songs at the Volcan Mountain Foundation Gateway Nature Education Center outdoor classroom from 3-5:30pm.  VMF Education Coordinator, Kathleen Beck, and naturalist Greg Hill will lead the group of happy hikers to great heights with their vast experience on naturalist adventures.
    

What is conservation art? It is an art project that helps to elucidate why we need to conserve, or save, a particular species. In these classes we will be learning what is so unique about our conifer forests. Our living models will show us what is so spectacular about them.

As part of the 2nd Annual Julian Wild & Scenic Film Festival, the Volcan Mountain Foundation, will present local filmmaker, and producer of the highly-acclaimed 'The Wilds' series, Jim Karnik who will lead a wilderness filmmaking workshop.

Share lunch with and meet Julian resident, filmmaker, and Volcan Mountain Foundation board member, Chris Elisara from Noon-1:30pm.  

Kids will be delighted, inspired, and empowered by the one-hour selection of Wild & Scenic films by, and for, kids.  The Volcan Mountain Foundation is proud to offer these set of films that are a natural extension of VMF's Education-Outreach program which seeks to nuture our future nature-lovers and conservationists.

Don't miss the opening night festivities of the Volcan Mountain Foundation's 2nd Annual Julian Wild and Scenic Film Festival on Friday, May 17th starting at 6:30pm for an opportunity to meet some of the extraordinary filmmakers!

The Volcan Mountain Foundation is hosting a very special Volcan Wonder Walk.  Participants will hike to the Clint Powell Memorial Bench at the top of Volcan Mountain with VMF Education Coordinator, and Outdoor Specialist, Kathleen Beck and photographer, John Raifsnider.  The journey will begin at the Hubbell Gateway and include many magical moments of inspiring views and activities within the 1000’ elevation gain. Bring your camera! The $40 cost per person includes a picnic up on the mountain.

Naturalist, wildflower expert, and state parks specialist, Larry Hendrickson, will guide you through the spring wonders of Volcan Mountain with a behind-the-scenes tour and make a wildflower expert out of you.  As part of this outing you will enjoy a catered lunch courtesy of Michael Beck.  Date: Saturday, May 25th, 2013 9am. Cost is $60 per person.
