Nature Scavenger Hunt at Santa Ysabel Preserve East

Saturday, August 31st at 10am, join county of San Diego Parks & Recreation staff for a nature scavenger hunt along the trail in the preserve.  Children will get to learn some interesting facts while enjoying nature.  Open to children of all ages.  Please bring plenty of water and snacks and wear appropriate hiking attire.  Be prepared for hot weather.  Meet at the Santa Ysabel East Amphitheater at the Farmer Road staging area.  Inclement weather will cancel the event.

Native American Plant Walk & Luncheon-Saturday, June 8th, 9am-1pm; Reservations Required; Space is limited

Join Volcan Mountain docents Toni Marquette & Sally Snipes along a short walk from the Hubbell Gateway to learn about traditional Native American uses for local plants, and afterwards participants will caravan up to Ferguson Flat to enjoy a picnic lunch along the ridgeline provided compliments of Carol Pike.  Cost is $60 per person.

Spring Wildflower Walk & Picnic Lunch, Saturday, May 25th, 2013-Reservations Required; Space is limited

Naturalist, wildflower expert, and state parks specialist, Larry Hendrickson, will guide you through the spring wonders of Volcan Mountain with a behind-the-scenes tour and make a wildflower expert out of you.  As part of this outing you will enjoy a catered lunch courtesy of Michael Beck.  Date: Saturday, May 25th, 2013 9am. Cost is $60 per person.

Volcan Mountain Wildflower Hike-Saturday, May 11th, 10am

Spring is the time to see the backcountry in bloom! Saturday, May 11th at 10am, join county rangers as they take you on a guided wildflower hike of Volcan Mountain. Park along the side of the road at the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve trailhead (located next to 1209 Farmer Road) and walk a short distance to the impressive Hubbell Gateway. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, weather appropriate clothing (even on a nice day, it can get windy up top), a hat, and always bring water. Volcan Wonder Walk-Rescheduled-New Date & Time TBA; Reservations Required; Space is limited

The Volcan Mountain Foundation is hosting a very special Volcan Wonder Walk.  Participants will hike to the Clint Powell Memorial Bench at the top of Volcan Mountain with VMF Education Coordinator, and Outdoor Specialist, Kathleen Beck and photographer, John Raifsnider.  The journey will begin at the Hubbell Gateway and include many magical moments of inspiring views and activities within the 1000’ elevation gain. Bring your camera!

Santa Ysabel Preserve East-Guided Hike, Sunday, April 14th, 2013

Meet County Park Rangers at 10am at the Farmer Road staging area (about a mile north of Camp Cedar Glen) for a guided hike of the Santa Ysabel East Open Space Preserve.  Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and weather appropriate hiking attire.  Bringing water, sunscreen and a hat are also recommended.  Inclement weather will cancel all hikes.  For more information contact the local ranger office at 760-765-4098.
