On Saturday, March 14th, join County Park staff for an early spring hike to the scenic summit of the county's Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve (VMWP). Saturday, March 7th join, Volcan Mountain Foundation board member and naturalist, Sharyl Massey for an early morning bird walk at Lake Cuyamaca. You’ll learn the basics of bird identification and ecology, then head off for a leisurely walk along the lake where you will develop the skills to identify a variety of bird species in addition to getting a close up look at their behavior. Later you can use these skills when exploring the preserves and reserves of the Volcan Mountain range.

On Sunday, February 15th join San Diego County Park staff as they leads the group a hike around the Kanaka Loop trail through the grassy meadows and oak groves of the Santa Ysabel Preserve-East. Learn about the history, plants and wildlife of the area, and enjoy a view of the coast from atop Kanaka Flats.

Enjoy discussions about the history, plants and wildlife of the preserve, while seeing places in the preserve you normally don’t get to see. Meet at the Santa Ysabel Preserve East-Highway 79 staging area at 10am.
